Project Description

The TENWEST Festival Experience Team in partnership with the Arts Foundation for Tucson and Southern Arizona is seeking a skilled Graffiti Artist to create a medium scale (approximately 8’ x 12’), mural-type art piece across a “canvas” of wooden badges for the TENWEST Festival this year using spray-paint or airbrush. The badges will not be painted individually, rather they will all be laid out and attached to a board so the artist can spray-paint their design across all of them at once. The completed badges should be finished with a clear topcoat spray/sealer.

Aside from sparking important dialogue, inspiration and learning amongst Festival attendees, the TENWEST Festival also promotes the importance of the human connection and network. The Artwork theme will be: “The Human Connection in Tucson” and should reflect the importance of the human connection through Tucson’s cultures, arts, innovations and communities. The badges design should represent this connection. Though they will be given to festival attendees and separated from the whole, they create a beautiful work of art together.

A panel of TENWEST Festival coordinators will be selecting the artist to create the badge design.

The selected artist will receive a $1,000 Value Package which includes:

  • A TENWEST Festival Merch Package.
  • A feature in a TENWEST Festival promotions.

How to Apply:

Applicants should submit the following items to The Arts Foundation at info@artsfoundtucson.org:

  • 1 design proposal JPEG image (a design of your idea for the badges).
  • No more than 4 JPEG images of past work samples.

Interviews may follow review of submission materials. Applicants who do not meet the requirements will not be reviewed.

Artwork Theme and location

The Artwork theme will be: “The Human Connection in Tucson” and should reflect the importance of the human connection through Tucson’s culture, arts, innovations and communities. The badges will be distributed at this year’s TENWEST Festival which takes place October 14 – 22nd.

Goal 

The goal of this project is to promote the TENWEST Festival through Tucson’s art and culture scene along with capturing the creative vision of what human connection in Tucson means to the local artist who is selected to create it.

Work Site Location

The selected artist should have a space to create their work in and allow for any PR coverage by the TENWEST Festival and The Arts Foundation.

Project Work Hours 

October 1 – 10, 2017.

Minimum Artist Requirements

  • Artists must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Artists must be skilled graffiti artists, with spray-paint or airbrush.
  • Artist must live in Tucson or Southern Arizona.
