P.L.A.C.E. Initiative

Influential on a national level, this local initiative has provided the foundation for the vision of Arts Found Now.

The People, Land, Art, Culture and Engagement (P.L.A.C.E.) Initiative provides funding for arts-based civic engagement projects, residencies, and public programs that work closely with community partners. Many P.L.A.C.E. projects address systemic problems identified in a community with a focus on residents’ quality of life and accessibility to everyday needs. Other projects highlight community arts practices, cultural celebrations, and festivals, all of which provide opportunities for culturally-based civic dialogue.

“To not recognize narratives and stories as important sites in which to activate the emotional lives, imagination and creativity of mass audiences in pursuit of social justice is to stand on the sidelines of the American cultural conversation.”

– Bridgit Antoinette Evans, Nathan Cummings Foundation Fellow, “Culture Changes Us”
