Desert Splendor

In "Desert Splendor," Diaz's intention is to bring nature to an urban environment, creating a beacon for Tucsons desert community. The usage of trees as a focal point surrounded by a sinuous shape representing movement is symbolic of a revitalized Downtown Tucson streetscape and its ever-changing vibrancy, or the flow of a river or path symbolic of the flow of pedestrians, cyclists, cars, trains, and buses, which pass through this busy intersection.

Working as a counterpart to the facade of the existing builing, artist Daniel M. Diaz's work plays upon ideas of nature being represented in the city environment. Working with water-jet-cut steel and acrylic, Diaz depicts a tree as a focal point with a series of intricate designs encompassing the central design to convey movement.
