Artwork Budget: $35,000 (permitting, artist fees, installation, and materials)

Teaching Timeline: May to July 2021 (eight weeks); Monday-Friday 8 AM to 12 PM

Production Site: Rodeo Grounds (4823 S. 6th Avenue). Exact location will be confirmed in coordination with the Department of Transportation and Mobility and Parks and Recreation.

CALL TO TEACHING ARTISTS

In collaboration with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation and Mobility (DTM) and City of Tucson Ward 1, with funding from the Pima Association of Governments (PAG) and the City of Tucson, the Arts Foundation for Tucson and Southern Arizona (Arts Foundation) is seeking a qualified Teaching Artist to lead an eight-week summer program to work with youth artists through the public art design process and production of artwork in a public transportation setting.

CITY OF TUCSON PUBLIC ART PROGRAM PRINCIPLES AND GOALS

The City of Tucson’s Public Art Program aspires to meet the following goals: promote civic pride through the high quality of Tucson’s public art collection; celebrate Southern Arizona’s history, culture, and traditions; provide information and support for artists interested in creating public art; involve neighborhoods, users, and the general public in the public art process; and complement and support the City of Tucson’s economic development, neighborhood development, and downtown revitalization efforts,” (City of Tucson Administrative Directives,  7.01-1 The City of Tucson Public Art Program).

PROJECT SITE DESCRIPTION AND LOCATION

The artwork production site is located at Rodeo Grounds (4823 S. 6th Avenue). Exact location will be confirmed in coordination with the Department of Transportation and Mobility and Parks and Recreation 

ARTWORK PLACEMENT AND MEDIUM

The final artwork will be located along the 12th Ave/La Doce Corridor between Irvington and Drexel on the east and west sides of the street. The project is ideal for acrylic mural paintings, on up to 12 concrete planters. Planter dimensions are 28.5 in. (Height) x 30 in. (Diameter). Tilework or sculptural accents are encouraged.
