Artwork Title: Historia 4 from “Las Historias” series
Medium: found paper collage, fabric and oil on canvas.
Year: 2021

“Las historias son muy importantes. Stories are significant. Stories have the power to connect communities across generations, time, and geographical borders. For this reason, I decided to document the stories of five individuals who now live on the border in Douglas, AZ, after making their way from different parts of Mexico. Through this work, I wanted to embrace our Mexican heritage, culture, and, most importantly, the nuances of life on the border.

The series is made of found paper, oils, and fabric. The found paper represents color pallets found in Mexican communities, as well as the individual’s favorite colors. Within the portrait collage is a map of Arizona, highlighting the geography of the US/Mexico borderline.”
