April Artist: Coley Curry

🎨Introducing our Color Palette of the Month artist, Coley Curry!

Artwork Title: “Ferdinandi”
Medium: Digital Collage
Year: 2022

Coley Curry is a Filipinx dancer and creative. Her art often takes form in storytelling, facilitation, collage, craft and film. Born in Chicago, IL she’s lived many places and currently calls Arizona home.

In her movement work, she aims to create spaces for community, ritual, healing and taking ownership of personal history and cultural narratives.

Coley has her MFA in dance from Arizona State University. Recently she had the intense pleasure of joining Rihanna on the field, as a dancer during the super bowl halftime show. Coley is a faculty member at Chandler Gilbert Community College, the Associate Director of the Arizona Drive-In Dance Film Festival and serves as a board member for Dansense-Nrtyabodha.

“Within my multiple art practices I tend to select color palettes intuitively and as part of a conversation with the work. Maybe it’s a costuming choice for a dance piece and trying to figure out the characters in the movement and how to represent the energy of the piece through colors. Or maybe it’s a collage and I’m pulling together different bits and pieces and I want to figure out how to help my viewer draw connections.”
