About the Process

When Janny Taylor was a little girl, she innocently asked, “Mommy, am I pretty?” To which her mother replied, “You’re interesting looking.” That comment, clearly a seminal moment, sent Taylor on a lifelong exploration: What is beauty? What is interesting? Where do the two intersect? As Edgar Allen Poe so aptly put it, “There is no exquisite beauty…without some strangeness in the proportion.” Taylor’s most recent works, over 375 collages created during the pandemic, indeed a time of strange proportion, delve down into this fantastical dimension.
