Julia Jai Miller
Julia Jai Miller is a Tucson-born artist working in mixed media and artist books. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography from the University of Arizona, where she discovered her love of book arts, as well as a Bachelor of Art in History from the University of Colorado. As a bibliophile, she found books were a wonderful way to share her photography, as well as express emotions with or without words. She quickly ventured into the realm of sculptural books.
For several years, Julia has taught bookbinding workshops through the Pima County Libraries and more recently, The Drawing Studio, as well as private workshops. She has also taught photography and art history at the high school level in Flagstaff and Shenzhen, China.
Her works have been exhibited nationally and internationally, and are held in several public and private collections including the Special Collections at the University of Arizona Libraries and the University of Washington Special Collections. One of her pieces, When, was selected by Julie Chen for inclusion in 500 Handmade Books, Volume 2 (Lark Crafts, 2013). Julia’s work often deals with themes of motherhood, family, and social issues.
