Sirilak Rottler is community artist-educator working in Tucson, AZ. An Asian/Thai American, she grew up as an immigrant and an English language learner. She now studies asset-based approaches to community development and works with various immigrant communities. Her artistic and teaching interests intersect contemplative practice and a feminist ethic of care with civic participation, accessibility, and equity in the arts. Sirilak practices art in the conceptual medium and as a social practice. With a strong belief that our relations are worthy of attention, Sirilak works as a facilitator of communications and connections between community members. Sirilak's practice focuses on listening to ongoing conversations and the need to actively involve members in the shaping of their community.
Sirilak is currently an MA student in Art and Visual Culture Education at the University of Arizona with an emphasis on museum and community arts education. She was a citizenship instructor to adult learners of other languages for 5 years. She co-leads the Tucson chapter of Hamrah Arts Club, a multilingual arts program for refugee-status and immigrant youth.
