Trevor Barroero

Dr. Trevor Barroero is an award-winning percussionist, educator, and composer based in Tucson, AZ where he currently serves as Principal Percussionist of the Tucson Symphony and Director of Percussion Studies at Pima College.
About Trevor Barroero

Dr. Trevor Barroero, percussionist, has been the gold medalist of 13 concerto competitions, resulting in opportunities to perform as a marimba soloist in Canada, as guest timpanist of the Moscow Symphony Orchestra, as a chamber musician in South Africa, and as a soloist with The United States Army Band Pershing's Own.

He currently serves as Principal Percussionist of the Tucson Symphony, Second Percussionist of the Huntsville Symphony, and Adjunct Director of Percussion at Pima College. Dr. Barroero has performed for productions on Disney+, Hulu, and ABC and has performed alongside artists including Christina Aguilera, Halle Bailey, and Andrea Bocelli. He has performed with many orchestras including the LA Phil and Hawaii Symphony.

His compositions have been performed around the world and his award-winning soundtracks have been featured in nearly one dozen films. Dr. Barroero's percussion students have gone on to win numerous international awards and they have received scholarships to attend top-tier institutions including the Cleveland Institute of Music, the Manhattan School of Music, and San Francisco Conservatory. Trevor Barroero performs “Dogtown” for Percussion and Electronics, by Steven Snowden. Trevor was a member of the consortium that commissioned this new work.

The piece is divided into the following four movements:

  4. Use Your Head (06:50)

On February 19, 2021, the Lineage Percussion Trio (Trevor Barroero, Lauren Floyd, and Wesley Sumpter) presented a one-hour musical event entitled, Shadows of Lakeland. All three members of the group performed their original vignettes as part of the event along with the world premiere of Carlos Simon’s Hymns for Percussion Trio.

The duty of artists is to reflect and create content that is synonymous with the current world, exposing the downfalls and triumphs of the human spirit. Lineage Percussion is joining forces with renowned composer, Carlos Simon, to present the world premiere of Shadows of Lakeland. Lakeland, located in College Park, Maryland, is a historical black community that has proven resilient when distracted by trials and tribulations. We invite you to experience the voices of Lakeland as we explore their vibrant history and resolve in times of uncertainty.

Since its 2021 premiere, Shadows of Lakeland has been performed multiple times around the world (in the USA and South Africa).

This is another original composition by Trevor Barroero performed by the members of Lineage Percussion (Trevor Barroero, Wesley Sumpter, and Lauren Floyd). All video recording and editing was completed by Trevor Barroero. Since its virtual premiere in 2020, this trio piece has been performed by ensembles around the world from the Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan to the Stellenbosch Chamber Music Festival in South Africa.
