Sobre el artista

My name is Shaun Cochran, I'm an artist, illustrator and designer living in Tucson, AZ. After graduating with a Fine Art degree in 2009 I illustrated a series of children's books for the Sanford Harmony program. I moved to Tucson in 2010 and have been doing freelance art and illustration since then. A lot of my inspiration is derived from manga, western comics and cartoons. I am obsessed with creating detailed artwork, and I'm often asked how long my pieces take to complete (usually, it's a long time). Over the past few years I have illustrated book covers, board games and puzzles, and have dabbled into making comics and short animations. Since moving to Tucson I have illustrated more children's books, "Theodore the Great" being the most recent one. While drawing for books has helped pay the bills, my real passion lies in more dark and adult-oriented art: Horror, kaiju, dark fantasy and sci-if are my favorite subjects to illustrate.

Sobre el Proceso

Much of my work begins as a sketch or series of sketches first; I will try to figure out a solid overall composition before moving on towards more detailed work. I mostly design and draw using an iPad; I can then transpose my digital design using a laser cutter to produce a woodblock for printing, or a stencil for creating screen prints. I do draw and paint using traditional media as well; I have drawn a series of large illustrations using permanent markers on canvas. I use a combination of new and nearly used-up markers along with the texture of the canvas to create detailed imagery.
