Day 2: Curtis Alan Kiwak
Curtis Alan Kiwak
Creative Medium: Drawing, Painting
About the Artist
I use my art to tell stories, treating each page like a miniature stage. I rarely plan my compositions, instead striving for spontaneity, much like a child using art to process daily life. I tap into my inner child, letting randomness shape the imagery. Experimenting with various materials, I create strange, whimsical worlds with an unexpected psychological edge. As I work, narratives unfold organically, often incorporating symbols of my childhood fears. I'm fascinated by how my imagination materializes on the page and how the work develops its own life.I earned my BFA from the University of Arizona in 1983 and joined the Central Arts Collective that same year, remaining active until 1990. After a hiatus from the art community, I returned to studio practice in 2004. Today, I work with ballpoint and gel pens, pastels mixed with paint mediums, pencils, charcoal, and paint on paper. My pieces range in size from 5x7 inches to 32x40 inches.

About The Event
I'll be at Steinfeld Gallery all three Open Studio Tour days with a dozen of my newest works in the group show—plus two dozen more recent pieces on hand. Then swing by my main workspace at Tucson Art & Design Center (3780 E. Grant Rd.), where my wife will be hosting with even more art to see, buy, and talk about.
