About the Artist

My journey in the visual arts began in my mid- twenties. After a long hiatus as a jazz percussionist, I found a new creative outlet in sculpting and wood working. Though I am primarily self taught, there can never be enough credit given to the many incredible artists who continue to inspire and influence my work… a few of whom I am lucky enough to call my friends. My work has been exhibited locally at Tohono Chul and the Tubac Center of the Arts. Many pieces have found homes in private collections across the U.S. Through subject matter and material I try to evoke a memory of our ancient past, point towards forgotten connections, and hopefully spark ideas and conversations worth having.

About the Process

For me working with wood is a balance between realizing an artistic vision and respecting or enhancing the natural beauty and character of the material. I always remind myself that wood is the remains of a once living organism. This helps me to maintain a feeling of reverence as I work. Most of my sculptures take well over 100 hours to complete and involve the use of several woodworking tools and techniques. My sense of touch plays a major role in my creation process. A piece is complete when it not only looks right but feels right as I hold it.
