About the Artist

Genevieve Guadalupe is a Mexican-American Fiber artist and Printmaker. From a very young age, she immersed herself in the art of fiber, spinning wool and learning the art of plant dyeing alongside her mother as she crafted intricate weavings. As a young adult, she delved into sewing, finding a passion in creating costumes for ballet companies across the US. Embracing the challenge of sustainability, she turned remnants of costume fabrics into vibrant narratives through the art of crazy quilting. Her artistic evolution led her to study drawing, printmaking and textile restoration, blending ancient techniques with modern sensibilities, often merging printmaking and quilting. Guided by nature's kaleidoscope, her favorite hues infuse her work, while shapes and contours of the natural world inspire her design elements. Each creation is a testament of her passion for storytelling and her reverence for the environment. Through her works, she invites viewers into a world where tradition intertwines with innovation, where every stitch tells a tale of heritage and imagination. Her art is now exhibited across the world, including France, England, Brazil, Australia, Peru, Mexico, Belgium, Ireland, Scotland, Holland, Japan, Taiwan and the United States.

About the Art

About the Process

As a printmaker and textile artist, I find inspiration in the natural world and the rich textures of various materials. My work spans across wood, wool, cotton, fabrics, and paper, blending traditional and experimental techniques to create woven, sewn, printed pieces, and sculptural forms. My creative journey begins with a sketch, where I explore the scale and composition of the piece. This initial stage informs my choice of materials and guides the direction of the artwork. I am particularly drawn to large-scale projects, where I can combine printmaking with textile art. I often start by assembling backgrounds from fabric scraps, carefully selecting colors that resonate with the theme of the piece. This patchwork foundation is then brought to life through the intricate process of woodcut printing, followed by quilting to add depth and texture. Printmaking, for me, is an intricate dance of materials and techniques. I work with diverse supports such as wood, Plexiglas, metal, marble, and even recycled tetra packs. Each material offers a distinct challenge and contributes a unique effect to the final piece. The process of carving, inking, and pressing is both meditative and invigorating, allowing me to explore the limits of each medium. Sustainability is at the core of my practice. I am dedicated to minimizing my environmental impact by recycling and reusing materials whenever possible. The unexpected interactions between different mediums—like the contrast of ink on fabric or the tactile quality of thread on paper—fuel my creativity and result in artworks that are both innovative and mindful of our planet.
