About the Artist

I completed my BFA at the University of Arizona in 1983 and became a member of Central Arts Collective, where I remained until 1990. Following a 15-year hiatus, I returned to studio work in 2007. I have since been involved in gallery group exhibitions and have had multiple solo shows in Tucson. I maintain a consistent practice at my Midtown studio located in the Art Design Center, within the WAMO group of artist spaces. As I create paintings or drawings, my narrative unfolds with childlike wonder, where monsters and innocents entwine in perilous situations or moments of bravery, leaving viewers to unravel their complexities. I aim to push artistic limits, offering a unique storytelling journey. With acrylics, gel pens, pastels, alcohol markers, and watercolor crayons, I craft an immersive experience, delving into the depths of human emotion and the struggle to emerge from darkness.

About this Tour

My art serves as a dynamic storytelling medium, turning each page or canvas into a miniature theater where narratives unfold spontaneously. Instead of detailed planning, I embrace creativity inspired by my inner child, honed during my years as an early childhood educator. Using a mix of drawing and painting, I work with materials like charcoal, pencils, and acrylics, often incorporating symbols such as animals and water to reflect childhood fears. Each piece evolves organically, revealing psychological depth and capturing both innocence and complexity. My work invites viewers to explore these imaginative realms and contemplate the mysteries of life.

My studio, located near Grant Rd. and Alvernon in midtown Tucson, will be open to the public along with other artists in the building. Several of the 17 artists will also open their studios. The space is provided by WAMO (Warehouse Art Management Organization), which supports local artists by offering affordable studios and exhibition spaces. My workspace is approximately 350 square feet. Please note, I only sell original artwork, not prints. While Grant Rd. is currently under construction, business access and parking remain available both in front and behind the building.

About the Art

About the Process

After earning my BFA from the University of Arizona in 1983, I joined the Central Arts Collective, where I was an active member until 1990. A 15-year hiatus followed, but I resumed studio work in 2007. Since then, I have participated in gallery group exhibitions and held numerous solo shows in Tucson. My studio is located in the Art Design Center, part of the WAMO artist spaces in Midtown, where I have my workspace. In my work, each canvas or page transforms into a dynamic stage for storytelling, where spontaneous narratives take shape organically rather than adhering to a predetermined plan. This creative spontaneity is deeply influenced by the imaginative spirit of my inner child, an aspect nurtured by my background as an early childhood educator. I engage with a variety of materials—charcoal, pencils, acrylics, gel pens, pastels, alcohol markers, and watercolor crayons—to build my artistic vision. Recurring symbols such as animals and water serve as key elements in exploring themes of childhood fears and innocence. Each piece evolves with its own character, weaving complex scenarios where monsters and innocents interact in heroic or perilous situations. This interplay offers viewers an opportunity to delve into the layers of meaning within my work, inviting them to engage with the rich, imaginative realms I create. Through this process, I aim to push the boundaries of artistic expression, crafting immersive experiences that reflect the depths of human emotion and the journey through life's challenges.
