About the Artist

Originally from the rural Midwest, I transplanted to Tucson in 2001 to pursue a Masters in Landscape Architecture from the UofA, fell in love with this place and never left. In addition to the desert, I also love oceans & tropical places & I've travelled to numerous destinations in the world to explore. Being immersed in nature, among plants & animals truly feeds my soul, mesmerizes my mind and senses, and sparks my creativity. After a serendipitous string of events, Art Mixer was born in 2018, which utilizes a step-by-step teaching method for both adults & children. I teach "paint events" in my studio, at community venues, and online! When I create a painting, it's with the intention and mindfulness of teaching it. This lifestyle enables me to teach art, showing people that they too can paint if taught the steps, but also allows me the opportunity for freedom and travel. I'm truly living my purpose, bringing people joy through art and making my heart happy in the process. Learning and growing personally and artistically while bringing inspiration, light, and the love of art to others is my passion and I'm extremely grateful to get to do what I do.

About this Tour

Guests will be able to see all of the step by step painting choices that are available to learn to paint at Art Mixer! These include step by step canvas designs, step by step wine glass designs, paint & take ceramics & wood cut out designs to paint. You can even sign up ahead of time to paint a step by step wine glass design on either day! The times available for the step by step wine glass designs will be 4pm on both Saturday and Sunday. You may paint your own ceramic bisque piece on either day, at any time as well. We’ll have ornaments and other holiday themed items available. Acrylic paint will be used, so you’ll take these home the same day. If you will be painting a wine glass design (washable/usable after curing) with us or ceramic items at 4pm, you may bring your own alcohol into the studio to enjoy while you paint. It must be 4pm or later to bring alcohol, which is the magic hour stated on my AZ BYOB license.

About the Process

My name is Angela Burton and I paint with acrylics on canvas, glass and wood mostly. My favorite is painting onto smooth wood pine planks. These days, most of my canvas designs or wine glass designs are created so that I can teach the process to others in an efficient, magical way so that everyone feels successful. I first research the subject by looking at many different photo references in order to come up with an interesting composition that others will enjoy painting. Sometimes I'm lucky enough to get permission to use a specific photo and can replicate that in my painting. I then write down every single step of the painting process from start to finish, noting brushes used, colors, strokes and technique. In this way, I'm able to re-teach it efficiently. Many of my creations are very detailed and so in order to ensure success for all, and to teach within two to two and a half hours, I trace the outline of the image onto the canvases ahead of time, and then walk the painters through the painting process, step by step. Other creations are simple enough to start painters from scratch, with a totally blank canvas and to walk them through to a final masterpiece. All are successful, even if they've never picked up a brush. All guests are able to enjoy themselves in my uplifting events, laughing, (sometimes drinking), and relaxing into the therapeutic flow of the guided painting process with my playful way of teaching.
