About the Artist

A conceptual artist that once hailed from Ann Arbor, MI. She received national media attention when her touring exhibition, "Banned Books as Art" in 1996 was banned in Independence, MO. This exhibition is housed at the University of Michigan Labadie Collection. While living in Michigan she has shown at the Cranbrook Museum of Art and the Kresge Museum of Art. One of her art pieces made out of a discarded book cover resides in an American embassy. Her present work is focused on colonialism and the "Cowboys and Indians" genre. Outside of working with discarded book covers, she is making art pieces out of Old West toys, mainly table sculptures, from the 1930's - 1960's at the RocknW Art Studio. She is also presently writing a novel about a romance sparked on a western filmed at the Mescal Movie Set in Benson. Wysocki also works as a professional actor and has been in a few western movies herself. She appears as Mommie in Carolyn Cavallero's film Time of the Witch which began streaming October 8, 2024. About the Process

Artist Statement – Sharon Wysocki My artistic process has galloped through creative fields of altered books, paintings and mixed media table topped sculptures. My studio always remains in a state of creative chaos. I never know when and what might inspire me to act with an artistic passion NOW. Storyboards, vintage Old West toys, stacks of books & magazines, empty plastic film reels, horse tack and Iroquois souvenir pouches are scattered about. When I was working on The Lone Ranger and Tonto Cowboy and Indian Icon Found Art Project (http://rocknwartstudio.wordpress.com) My studio at my former RocknW Ranch in Graham County had hundreds of plastic Cowboy and Indian small action figures everywhere.
