About the Artist

Inspired by Nature from around the world and around the corner, my work has been displayed in galleries across the US. The works for this Open Studio are all from the local Tucson area. My intent is to show the great variety and ever-changing moods of nature and our surroundings, with the hope that others will be moved to help protect and preserve it. A given image is a microsecond in time, but I try to capture enduring images—a serendipitous moment, a moody landscape, special light, – and to share those unique moments with you. In my photography, I was a reluctant convert to a digital camera, and many of my favorite images were captured on film. I rarely use a tripod or artificial lighting, and I use digital photo editing sparingly, mainly so that the images allow the shared experience of "being there". Nature never goes out of style and speaks for itself. So, I endeavor to capture images that speak for themselves, and to you. For this Fine Art studio show, I will be displaying samples of drawings, paintings, and photography.

About this Tour

At this event, a group of artists are joining forces to display our work in a single gallery. The historic old San Pedro Chapel, in the Old Fort Lowell Neighborhood, has been known for decades as an area for artists and creativity. Visitors will be treated to view and purchase works of Fine Art and jewelry by at least 10 local artists. Each artist will have ample space to show a collection of our works, not just one or two pieces from each artist. On Saturday, music will be provided by The Tune Monkeys, a fine local acoustic trio. The historic chapel and surrounding grounds are a pleasing place to visit as well, with parking on the grounds.

About the Process

I will be displaying photography, oil paintings, mixed media drawings, and greeting cards. My current photographic work depicts unique scenes of Nature in the Tucson area. I am a "purist" in the sense that I do not use artificial lighting, and I employ digital manipulation sparingly, only what might be used in a traditional darkroom. I rely on the moods and beauty of the light that nature provides. Images are printed on archival matte watercolor photo paper with archival pigments, which provides superior richness and depth. All are Limited Editions created solely by me, some are one-of-a-kind. My drawings are primarily pen and ink and mixed media, including charcoal pencil, pastel, water color, and marker pens. My oil paintings use traditional materials and methods. I will also have a selection of greeting cards, each individually printed by me using archival materials (not outsourced or mass produced), signed, suitable for framing as smaller works of art, for yourself or as gifts.
