Maureen Lueck has served the Public Art & Community Design Committee (PACDC) for more than a decade and shared the reason behind her decision to stay after all these years.
Sadie Shaw (SS): Why did you join PACDC?
Maureen Lueck (ML): The first Public Art and Community Design Committee I attended was May 14th, 2014. I joined because I’m an artist, and I stayed this long because filling our community with good art is important.
SS: What makes participation meaningful to you?
ML: PACDC has given me the opportunity to work with Tucsonans who have an interest in beautifying their streets and neighborhoods. PACDC members serve with community members on some very interesting projects.
SS: In what ways does your participation impact the community? Can you share a specific example?
ML: When I joined, I didn’t realize I’d get a tour of the Los Reales Landfill, would be thinking about art to surround a bike counter on the Loop, or helping a new fire station connect to its neighborhood with art.
SS: Anything else you’d like to share?
ML: If a piece of public art is coming to a place near you, think about being on the committee that selects and directs the artist who will create a piece of artwork for you to enjoy for a long time. Tucson deserves the best.
