A Gneiss Bench to Sit On

Rio Vista Park is designated by the City Parks Department as a œNatural Resource Park. In keeping with the spirit of this designation, the public art consists of two benches and seating areas constructed of a beautiful, local natural resource: the striped metamorphic rock that is visible in Sabino Canyon and across the front range of the Catalinas. Geologists call this rock œgneiss, pronounced œnice, making each seating element œa gneiss bench to sit on.
