Desert O

This piece of art was donated to the City of Tucson public art collection by the artist, Joseph O'Connell (Creative Machines). The shape of the circle means different things to different people. It can stand for cyclic return , self-sufficiency, continuous motions, or holistic peace. To some it might stand for a donut or wheel. There is no one interpretation I am after. It just seems that the circle is under-represented in both the natural and artificial forms around Tucson. When I chose the colors of the lights and programmed their motion, I was aiming for a peaceful, wise, somewhat mysterious feeling.
