Tucson Totems

Bright colors and whimsical symbols represent community qualities important to the Helen Keeling Neighborhood. The totems increase motorists' awareness of the presence of the pedestrian crosswalk. The symbols are inspired by desert flora and fauna and by the activities of community members such as walking, biking, and jogging, creating beautiful gardens, and nurturing children, plants and animals. The central gecko honors the neighborhood mascot in memory of a well known local herpetologist.
