Call to Teaching Artists: Transportation Art by Youth (TABY) Summer Program

  • Budget for Artwork: $35,000 (permitting, artist fees, installation, and materials)

In collaboration with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation and Mobility (DTM) and City of Tucson Ward 1, with funding from the Pima Association of Governments (PAG) and the City of Tucson, the Arts Foundation for Tucson and Southern Arizona (Arts Foundation) is seeking a qualified Teaching Artist to lead an eight-week summer program to work with youth artists through the public art design process and production of artwork in a public transportation setting.

The artwork production site is located at Rodeo Grounds (4823 S. 6th Avenue). Exact location will be confirmed in coordination with the Department of Transportation and Mobility and Parks and Recreation.

The final artwork will be located along the 12th Ave/La Doce Corridor between Irvington and Drexel on the east and west sides of the street. The project is ideal for acrylic mural paintings, on up to 12 concrete planters. Planter dimensions are 28.5 in. (Height) x 30 in. (Diameter). Tilework or sculptural accents are encouraged.
