About the Artist

Barbara Brandel has been a full time studio artist in Tucson since the late 70's, and has been actively exhibiting since then. Having shown in four of Tucson Museum of Art's Biennials, and a winner in TMA's AZ Biennial in 1993 and 1997, she was also awarded a Tucson/Pima Arts Council Fellowship in 1995. She has been featured in national and regional exhibits, publications and media. Her work has been collected throughout the United States and beyond. Current works: paintings on canvas which immerge as surreal, inspired by small paper collages of random magazine images; paintings on paper with views from home/or paintings as homages to anonymous artisans whose works reside (or not, but are revered) within museum walls; and collages and paintings using recycled world postage stamps. Formerly a weaver and fiber artist, she sometimes works again in fiber, when the concept calls for it. Her concerns include the concept of craftsmanship and the hand of the artist. Brandel's website – www.barbarabrandelartist.com contains artworks as mentioned above. The Archives section contains some, but not all, of her works that have been purchased. Brandel lives to make art in Tucson, AZ.
