About the Artist
Chip Travers, a New York City refugee, landed in Tucson in 1976, quickly becoming an established Art Director designing and producing a myriad of advertising material for both local and national clients. In 2010 he shifted gears from the marketing scene to become a successful illustrator and fine artist. As a visual journalist, Chip portrays his experiences in Southern Arizona and his love of the natural environment. His focus is on the wildlife and the cultural history of the Sonoran desert, to include Native American, Mexican American, and Cowboy cultures. This is evident in his paintings of rodeo events, cowboys, indians, the old West, structures, as well as of the wildlife gracing our beautiful desert and mountains.
His unique style of color pencil and watercolor has earned him many local exhibits and shows in the Old Pueblo, from various Pima County libraries, Reid Park, Tucson Airport, Tubac, Patagonia, Sonoita, Tucson Rodeo, appearances at the Tucson Mountain Oyster Club and as a feature artist at the historic Empire Ranch.
Chip is the founding member of The Leaping Lizard Art Gallery on Tanque Verde Road and continues to produce prints and note cards of his work along with his substantial originals.
