About the Artist

Linda Ahearn, a local artist in Tucson, Arizona, owns and operates Toscana Studio and Gallery now in it's 19th year. Linda began her art career at the age of 12 with oil painting classes. She continued to focus in oil until her junior year of college, when she attended art school overseas in Florence, Italy. At Gonzaga in Florence, Linda learned a mass of diverse sculpture methods, and was positively inspired by the masters work. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1984. Since then, Linda has been involved in myriad continuing education courses in the visual arts, constantly refining her techniques, learning new mediums, and expanding her knowledge. She specializes in both oil painting and figurative clay and bronze sculpture, and is actively seeking public art commissions for bronze monuments. She continues to paint prolifically, mostly from live models, and landscape. Linda is very active in the community art scene and has been a representative on many art panels for selection of exceptional artists for awards. She continues teaching children and adults painting and sculpture. Linda has inspired scores of students to look within and find their sparks of creativity to express themselves.

About the Art

About the Process

I have been creating art my entire life and love to paint and sculpt equally. I am inspired by our beautiful earth, the stunning landscapes we enjoy in the southwest, as well as the people who inhabit it. I prefer to work en plein air or with live models, the process of being there in person greatly influences the emotions I experience that are an integral part of the process and outcome. I love painting with oils using both brushes and palette knives, and LOVE being out in the desert with all my gear to be part of nature while creating. With sculpting, I use oil based clay to sculpt using a live model for reference, setting the pose, measuring and sizing to my piece. When complete, I hire the local foundry to produce my piece in bronze and love watching the process of turning my piece into a permanent piece of art that will last. My recent sculpt is of Tucson's Umbrella Lady, who touch me deeply every time I saw her on Oracle Road. She was always so beautiful and I always stopped just to admire her and think about the fragility of life. I was so saddened by her passing and last year took to my clay and created her so that I can continue to be inspired by her beauty.
