About the Process
Ideas for a painting may come from a dream, an image, or a reference photo. What the image is determines the medium -- whether it is a drawing, or a painting done in oil or acrylic or work done in some other medium. I start a painting by blocking out color zones or I may do a light sketch. if a large painting, I will work one quarter at a time and then do an over-all to even out tones. I am not consistent: I will mix colors carefully on a glass palate, mix directly on the canvas, or mix one or two colors on a small recycled plastic lid. I seem to finish three paintings of a particular subject and then move on to something new. Most recently, I've been doing small paintings of wild horses on multi-colored landscapes. I have also done monsoon clouds over our Tucson Mountains and people. My abstract paintings are plays on shapes and colors. Come and visit!
