About the Process
I have known since I was very young that I was an artist, and that I have something significant to contribute in the form of art. My move to Tucson in October of 2019 has given me the opportunity to fully explore my creative talent in a studio setting away from a lifelong history in Minnesota. I am deeply interested in the subject of the natural environment. It has been for me a great counselor and teacher about life. Almost all my work contains some reference to the natural environment in a metaphorical way. More recently I have been reflecting on social equality in my artwork in the hopes that I may inspire viewers to be more aware of our shared humanity. And spirituality is always at the heart of my work because that is the place from which my creativity flows.
My medium of choice is painting. I love to explore what paints can do with brushes, rags, and viscosity, applied in many layers and textures. I am dedicated to developing very rich, clean, dynamic colors. I have also incorporated sewing and painting in some mask collage projects as well as handmade paper on canvas to expand my expression.
My overall intention is to infuse my work with a sense of life that will overflow onto a viewer and leave an impression on them they can't stop thinking about. I hope to use my artwork to communicate in a way that is universal, to create a bridge of understanding and inspiration within the viewer to discover meaning inside of themselves and in others.
