About the Artist

Sonoran Glass School (SGS) is a public-access educational organization dedicated to inspiring people of all ages to discover the wonder of glass art. We teach students and the general public how to create and appreciate glass as a visual arts medium through educational courses, one-on-one experiences, visiting artist seminars, and community events funded by SGS members and supporters. We're the only full-service, nonprofit glass arts education organization in the desert Southwest.

About the Art

About the Process

In our modern society, glass is all around us. You probably interact with it daily in your home, drinking from a cup or looking through the window. In all of recorded history, mankind has relied on glass. As an art form, glass has existed dating back to the Bronze age in adornments like jewelry and vessels to hold water. Here at the Sonoran Glass School, we honor the tradition of glass art in a variety of forms. Whether working with molten glass in the hot shop, kiln firing sheets of glass in the warm shop, or molding the glass using tools in the cold shop - each process shows a reverence for this essential material. Our school offers a place for practicing glass artists to hone their craft, new visitors to explore the possibilities of glass, and for the production of glass objects for use.
