About the Artist

I'm Susan Ferguson. I'm a visual artist. I experiment primarily with two mediums – fiber/textiles and encaustic paints. When I work with fiber and textiles, I use fabrics, fur, feathers, found objects, rope, wire, yarn, paper, wood, and metals to produce layered, highly textured two- and three-dimensional artworks and collages. My fiber/textile works examine facets of nature and environmental matters. When I work with encaustic paints, I use colored wax and heat to create complex abstract paintings that explore spaces and emotions. I'm intrigued by textures and often incorporate different materials to achieve visual and tactile variety. I have two academic degrees: B.A. English-Writing/Journalism minor from Missouri Western State College; and M.A. English-Creative Writing from Northern Arizona University. I worked for more than forty years in agriculture, journalism, marketing, publishing, and teaching before chucking it all in 2014 to pursue the visual arts. My artwork has been exhibited in Chicago Heights, IL; Ganado, AZ; Kansas City, KS; Kansas City, MO; Lee's Summit, MO; Liberty, MO; New York, NY; Overland Park, KS; Pittsburg, KS; Prairie Village, KS; Santa Fe, NM; St. Louis, MO; Tucson, AZ; and Warrensburg, MO.
