About the Artist

My journey as an artist didn't start until I was 30, I guess you can say I was a late bloomer.
The vibrant colors I use in my paintings and the common theme (children and Maddonnas ) are an influence of both cultures predominant here in south Tucson. Additionally, all of the traditions and religious beliefs instilled in me as a child growing up in Mexico never left me, and are often found in my paintings.
I have a BA from the University of Arizona, where I majored in Linguistics and Spanish translation and interpretation. As a result, I enjoy transferring ideas and emotion on to the canvas through the use of color and images. This allows me to focus on simplicity which caters more to the senses than to the pressures of satisfying a specific audience for the sake of 'success'. It is especially important to me because I want to inspire children who may not see themselves as fitting into the roles which are considered successful in our society. I see my role as an artist as an opportunity to promote diversity so that people of all paths of life can see themselves as fitting in.
