Community Foundation for Southern Arizona doubles impact of emergency arts funding with $25,000 matching grant

$50,000 in Pivot Grants offer relief to artists and arts organizations affected by the COVID-19 crisis

April 17, 2020 (TUCSON, Ariz.)  The Community Foundation for Southern Arizona has joined forces with the Arts Foundation for Tucson and Southern Arizona to supply emergency funding for the arts community through the newly launched Pivot Grant. The Arts Foundation for Tucson and Southern Arizona (AFTSA) opened applications for the new grant earlier this month, and now, with matching funds from the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona (CFSA), a total of $50,000 will be distributed to the local arts community affected by the current coronavirus (COVID-19) health crisis.

The purpose of the Pivot Grant is to fund the adaptation of artistic projects or programming to support alternative methods of sharing (i.e. virtual, digital, socially distant) in response to the ongoing CDC guidelines for social distancing. Granted awards will range from $500 – $1,000 for individual artists or $1,000 – $2,500 for non-profit (501c3) arts organizations.

“Being able to double the impact of the Pivot Grant through such generosity from the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona is a much-welcome bright spot at a time when the need for direct financial relief is immense,” said Adriana Gallego, Executive Director of AFTSA.  “Their meaningful donation, along with funding from the City of Tucson and Pima County upholds our idea that together, our communities are stronger.”

“The Community Foundation for Southern Arizona is proud to partner with the Arts Foundation to support local artists and nonprofit arts organizations affected by COVID-19,” shared Kelly Huber, Director of Community Investments at CFSA.  “The arts play a critical role in sustaining the health and vibrancy of our diverse southern Arizona communities by offering both inspiration and insight. We are grateful for the opportunity to support those contributions during this time of crisis.”

Submissions for the grant may include new, currently in-progress, or on-going projects and programming. The Pivot Grant may be used to cover costs associated with these projects or programs, which can include, but is not limited to, staff wages, artist fees, technology, and material costs. Submissions are due April 22, 2020, and monies distributed to awardees by May.
