About the Artist
Curator Randiesia Fletcher, M.Ed., serves as a Master Teaching Artist and is an artistic anthropologist that specializes in Auto-ethnographic works. She explores cultural phenomenon through her personal experiences. This specialty uses her personal experiences and knowledge to articulate broader social, cultural, and political meanings in her literature and artwork. She challenges the perceptions of African-American faces, particularly a non-smiling face. Her research, writings, and artwork are influenced by the anthropological investigations of Zora Neal Hurston, and the literature of W. E. B. Dubious. Dubois speaks about the Double Consciousness— how people are forced to see themselves through a lens of racism. It is the dichotomy of how a person views themselves versus how the world views that person. This work is a renaissance to counter negative images that dominate news outlets. Mrs. Fletcher is a Tucson Public Voices Fellow (Women's Foundation for the State of Arizona and the University of Arizona). She has a variety of literary works that accompany her visual arts. Mrs. Fletcher is an avid OpEd writer, published in a variety of news outlets, and she is always working on new literature and artistic works. How to Purchase
