Originally from Colombia, South America, Alvaro moved to the US in the mid-1960s for college. With degrees in anthropology and Latin American studies, Enciso worked as a federal analyst for 20 years before transitioning to become a visual artist in New Mexico.

In Tucson, since 2011, he’s focused on art exploring migration, cultural identity, and the American dream. Alvaro’s project “Donde Mueren los Sueños” addresses migrant deaths in the Sonoran Desert using conceptual land art. Enciso’s studio work revolves around discarded migrant artifacts, telling the tales of those journeying north.
My color palettes are heavily influenced by the vibrant, bright tropical colors of Latin America
