🎨Introducing our Color Palette of the Month artist, Jeanine Colini!

Artwork Title: “Cactus Love”

Medium: Watercolor

Year: 2019

Cactus Love was created shortly after Jeanine moved to Tucson and is inspired by the abundance of cactus plants surrounding us all. Colini was intrigued by the heart-shaped prickly pear cactus which inspired the name of this painting.

“Most of my watercolor work uses vibrant colors–a trademark of my work. Like most artists, I have my favorite hues. I am partial to Daniel Smith watercolors in tubes. The palette of the images in this post include pthalo green, pthalo blue (or ultramarine), nickel azo yellow, cadmium orange, quinachridone rose (or alizarin crimson) and quinachridone violet.Cactus Love is one of my most popular pieces, owing to its vibrant colors and ever popular cactus subject. I’ve added other hues to my collection but I stay on the vibrant path–why mess with success?”

Jeanine’s “A to Zoo” animal alphabet, created in 1981 in art school, recently celebrated its 40th birthday. The critters have appeared in the movie “Three Men And A Baby” and television series “Dynasty.” Through her work with the Los Angeles Zoo Foundation, Jeanine has gifted original artwork to Jimmy and Gloria Stewart.

Other type-inspired works include “Art of the State” USA map where topography emerges from typography and “A to Z Cactus” featuring cactus of the Sonoran Desert. Her artwork has been licensed by HomeGoods and sells on American Apparel’s web site. She sells her art locally and nationally (jcda.com) and takes commissions.
