About Alanna Airitam

Alanna Airitam, a Tucson-based conceptual artist, redefines photography by integrating unconventional materials—metal, resin, varnish, and gold—into her work. Inspired by 17th-century Renaissance lighting, early Black studio photography, and historical narratives, her creations transcend traditional boundaries.

Featured in Chicago Tribune, BBC News, Artdoc Photography Magazine, and Lenscratch, Airitam's work graces prestigious institutions like the Center for Creative Photography, New Orleans Museum of Art, Fidelity Collection, Virginia Museum of Fine Art, and Rhode Island School of Design Museum.

Recipient of the 2020 San Diego Art Prize, 2020 Michael Reichman Project Grant Award, 2020 Critical Mass Finalist, 2021 Silver List, and the 2023 Project Mesquite: New Works Grant, Airitam is a stalwart supporter of artists of color. She co-founded the Southwest Black Artists Collective and The Projects, an experimental art space. Dedicated to mentorship, she champions emerging artists and facilitates opportunities within the art world.
