For Speed These Lines

The installation is the product of a process begun in 2002. Chosen initially for the depot, this design was modified to fit its new location at Iron Horse Park. Our research for the design uncovered much documentation of the monumental human effort required to build the rails across the North American continent. The installation gives sculptural form to the Carving (through mountains) and Bridging (across canyons) that were necessary to construct the railway.

Artist Siobhan Roome's 'For Speed These Lines' acts as a sculptural representation of carving (through mountains) and bridging (across canyons), as relevant to the railroad. The oversized steel elements all allude to objects found on or around railroads.
