Tucson Water Building Mural

Created by Art in Realty staff artist Rocky Martinez and program students, the mural design is based upon historical, cultural, geological, and contemporary themes that were expressed as relevant by the members of the community. The team interviewed neighbors, school students, and businesses in the project area; they talked with the historical museum, and engaged in the process of public meetings. Martinezs sensitive handling of the aerosol medium allows for conveying images realistically and with control and delicacy.
The City of Tucson and Ward 1, Vice Mayor Regina Romeros office in collaboration with Parks and Recreations Art in Reality (AIR) program sponsored this art project for the Tucson Water Building Wall in the El Presidio neighborhood. The wall is 122 feet long and ranges in height up to 12 feet. The mural tells honors nature, the importance of the Chinese community in getting the railroad across the country and one of our older businesses, Pasquales Grande Tortilla Factory.
