Casas Adobes Agaves

Casas Adobes is a beautiful neighborhood that was being used as a œshortcut route by speeding cars and trucks. The request for a permanent closing of their road led to my designing five gabions (steel mesh cages filled with Coronado rocks) to aesthetically form a vehicle barrier that also function as bases for reflective stainless steel agave sculptures. The gabion sculptures are maintenance free, massive in dissuading vehicles, and highly visible for traffic safety.

Artist David Voisard created several geometric shaped gabions to act as pedestals for a series of stainless steel agave sculptures. Each gabion is filled with found desert rock and constructed from mesh and steel strap.
