City of Tucson, Arizona

Budget for Artwork: $45,941
NEW Application Deadline: February 18, 2022 by 11:59pm  Arizona Time

The City of Tucson is seeking Artists and/or Artist teams to create public art in connection with Prop 407 park improvements for Tucson parks. The scope of work involves creating artwork in two different parks, John F. Kennedy Park and Barrio Nopal Park. The selected Artist(s) will be responsible for designing and fabricating artwork under the guidance of the Public Art Project Panel assembled for this project. The selected Artists(s) will be required to provide professional construction design plans to the City of Tucson for approval prior to fabrication. The artwork should reflect the culture and aesthetics of the community to promote distinctive neighborhood identities. Representatives of each community will be involved in the design process.

“Our community is fortunate to have an abundance of spectacular natural wilderness. Our strong appreciation for artistic and cultural heritage is evident in the many beautiful murals, sculptures, and other public works of art throughout our community. The Art in Your Park Call to Artists is a wonderful opportunity for local artists to celebrate and beautify two parks, giving Tucsonans yet another chance to see nature and art in tandem.”
– District 5 Supervisor Adelita S Grijalva

On November 6, 2018, the City of Tucson voters approved Proposition 407, a $225 million bond package for capital improvements via General Obligation bonds. The bond funds will be dedicated to improving City park amenities (playgrounds, sports fields, pools, splash pads, and recreation center) as well as connections (pedestrian pathways, bicycle pathways, pedestrian and bicycle safety).

This Call to Artists is for artwork that will be integrated into Phase 1 of Prop 407 park improvements for each of the following City of Tucson parks: John F. Kennedy Park and Barrio Nopal Park.

This Public Art opportunity is open to professional Artists that have been pre-approved on the Arts Foundation Artist Roster. Artists with experience in community engagement are encouraged to apply. Artists new to the field of public art are also encouraged to apply. Please note that fabrication of the Artist(s) design must be completed by the Artist or by a professional fabricator under the direction of the Artist. All designs will need to go through an approval process conducted by Tucson Risk Management Division prior to the start of any fabrication.
