CMT offers interactive exhibits, educational programming, and community engagement in an inclusive environment.
CMT first opened in 1986 in a one-room building at a local park. In 1991, CMT moved into the historic Carnegie Library building in downtown Tucson. In 2015, the Museum opened a satellite location in Oro Valley, serving children ages 0-5. In fall 2022, the Oro Valley location expanded in partnership with Tohono Chul botanical gardens, and the new Children's Museum Oro Valley at Tohono Chul Park launched in January 2023 as a year-round nature program for children and families. In 2023, 187,783 children and families visited CMT’s two locations.
