About Gavin Hugh Troy

being creative is something we are born with , from an early age into the present gavin hugh troy has been open to the creative process. As a child, building forts, making models , drawing, woodworking , photography and skateboarding all became part of the process of making art in present days.

graduating from Arizona state university in 1995 in fine arts, gavin began making and sharing paintings at local coffee shops and restaurants in the valley of the sun.

Moving to tucson in 1998 gavin has been creating , sharing, teaching in the downtown arts community non stop. “ Open studio tour is my favorite times of the year, to open up and share in the creative process and share the studio space with others is a joyful experience.

“Making art has become a way of expressing the journey of life, both internal and external” each painting becomes a non verbal form of expression documenting that journey.

About the Process

Drawing is an important element in the process of the work, studying from nature and the inner imagination, the line shapes and becomes a language of its own.
riding my bike around tucson and finding wood to create on has been a joy and part of the adventure. Along with making and stretching my own canvases.
Working with my hands , cutting wood, sanding wood, building frames, drawing with pencils, colored pencil, paint brushes , pallet knife, erasers, acrylic paints, watercolors, gesso, mister bottle and imagination are a few of the favorite tools used in the making process of the work. I love sharing the creative process of applying color washes, drawing on wood and using the sketchbook drawings for inspiration. Welcome to share and inspire during the open studio:)
