About Civic Orchestra of Tucson

COT’s mission includes:
• offering a series of eight free concerts each season throughout greater Tucson,
• bringing the Musical Instrument Petting Zoos to schools, community events, and art fairs, where children and adults can try playing various orchestral instruments
under the guidance of orchestra members,
• hosting the Young Artists’ Competition (YAC) where children from 9-18 perform a solo or ensemble piece for professional judges and receive feedback on their
performance,
• awarding cash prizes and the opportunity to solo with the orchestra to YAC winners,
• awarding private coaching scholarships to music students who wish to pursue music but could not otherwise afford lessons,
• programming music that includes traditionally underrepresented cultures and styles to broaden the experience for musicians and audience members, and
• providing opportunities for adult musicians to develop their skills through performance in a multi-generational orchestral group.
