Porter has been an educator since 2006 and an artist for even longer. His work includes illustration, murals as well as printmaking, specifically landscape prints. He enjoys working with communities, collecting stories and images and painting neighborhood murals has been a joyful and gratifying way to give back Tucson.
Porter’s work as an artist has been made even more rich by his experience as an educator. His time in the classroom has informed his ability to not only run large community paint events, but also mentor up-and-coming artists.
He completed an undergraduate degree in Studio Art at the University of Arizona, and upon graduating, moved to New York City to work in film and television. Since settling here again in 2005, he worked as an artist and educator and gained a masters degree in Visual Culture and Art Education. Over the last decade, Porter has created a myriad murals both in Tucson and in Ajo including one in the neighborhood of Pueblo Gardens for which he was awarded the Mayor’s Community Service Award.
