Alene Dunlap Smith Garden

When you step into the space, you go 'whew,' just let the air out, sit down and feel some kind of intimacy with the environment.
The remains of a Victorian garden were transformed into a sculpture garden, a ceramic oasis. Built on El Presidio de Tucson neighborhood Association land, this space took the artist five years to complete and was named for a resident who saved many of the neighborhood's buildings and obtained for it its National Register District status. An inverted U-shape of glazed tiles fills the garden's center like a cerulean blue river. From its core emerge five amorphous volcanic rocks which originally came from "A" Mountain, as did the rocks for the entry pillars, enclosing walls and seating.
