Skyline Roadway Enhancements

Our inspiration came from nature and the beauty of the desert environment and mountains along Skyline Road. The various features were designed to integrate and blend with the surrounding landscape. The conceptual basis came from input and interactions with the neighborhood and Citizen's Advisory Committee.

Inspired by the beauty surrounding the Skyline roadway, artists Kathy Hoyer and Selina Littler designed sound walls, retaining walls, seating elements and sidewalk insets. A serpentine screen wall of slump-block with an adobe look gently curves along the north edge of the roadway, weaving around existing mature saguaros. Branch forms are cast into a concrete wall near the east edge on the south side of the road. Poems about the sky and mountains are sandblasted in flagstone insets embedded into the concrete sidewalks.
