CALL TO ARTISTS
In collaboration with Pima County Department of Health, the Arts Foundation for Tucson and Southern Arizona (Arts Foundation) is seeking a qualified Artists/Artist Team of all disciplines to apply through a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) application process. The Temporary Public Art opportunity is open to Artists/Artist Teams with a historic connection to this region and those living in Ajo, Arizona.
GOALS OF THE PIMA COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT SALUDARTE PROGRAM
SaludArte is a collaborative project between the Arts Foundation for Tucson and Southern Arizona and the Pima County Health Department to find ways in which community engagement, health, and art can intersect to amplify the voices and experiences of our community while also helping to increase health equity, access, literacy and COVID-19 mitigation across Pima County.
Community members in each supervisory district that were disproportionately impacted by COVID-19 will convene in a series of meetings to share their stories of the pandemic and hopes for a resilient and brighter future. Five Artists/Artist Teams will be selected to create art projects informed by the voices of participants in each supervisory district. The artworks will be exhibited at a community wide event in the Fall of 2023.
ARTWORK THEME
The SaludArte artworks must be informed by the voices of the Saludarte Committee members in their selected supervisory districts. Participants will share the impact COVID-19 had on themselves and their community and their hopes, dreams and strategies for a resilient and healthy future.
The artwork will be developed in collaboration with the SaludArte Committee members in each district. The selected Artists/Artist Teams must translate these shared experiences into a Temporary Public Art project that will be exhibited at a community-wide event in Fall of 2023.
ARTWORK MEDIUM
This call is open to all artistic disciplines, with an emphasis on Artists/Artist Teams who can listen and collaborate with community to create an artwork interpreting the stories shared by participants in their selected district.
The artwork should be interactive, dynamic and illustrate the experiences of the SaludArte Committee members in their designated district. No specific medium has been identified. However, mediums that lend themselves to temporary, time-based, or interactive artworks are preferred and will be given priority. The Artists/Artist Teams will retain ownership of the artwork throughout the project timeline and after the culminating event.
ELIGIBILITY
The Temporary Public Art opportunity is open to individual Artists/Artist Teams with a historic connection to this region and those living in Pima County.
All interested applicants are encouraged and invited to apply, including but not limited to individuals or teams who are engaged full-time or part-time in the production of eligible works of art, teachers of art and emerging professional artists. Applicants must specify in their application which supervisory district they are applying to work with and will undergo review only for that specific district.
Note: Artist Teams are required to select a team lead as a point of contact for all communications. If selected for the project, team members may consider forming an LLC or should designate the team lead as signatory to contract with the Arts Foundation. If selecting the team lead as signatory, the Arts Foundation will contract with them directly as the “Vendor/Contractor.” The Team lead will be responsible for managing all financial responsibilities related to the contract (including taxes). Subcontracting and performance of team members is the exclusive responsibility of the Vendor/Contractor. Artists applying as a member of a team are not eligible to also apply as an individual.
ARTWORK PLACEMENT AND LOCATION
The finished artworks will be exhibited temporarily at various locations and at the community-wide event in the Fall of 2023. Time, duration and location to be determined with Saludarte Committee member input.
The Artist/Artist Team will work with the Saludarte Committee members in their designated district to identify a location for the temporary art installation on private property in their respective District. The duration of the temporary artwork installation in any specific district will be determined in collaboration between the Artist and the SaludArte Committee members from each District. Artist fees are all-inclusive and are meant to cover any and all costs associated with risk management, insurance, maintenance for the duration of the installation, fabrication, assistant fees, etc. (see Artwork Budget below for details).
