About Susan Ferguson

I’m Susan Ferguson. I’m a visual artist. I experiment with combinations of fiber, found objects, rope, yarn, paper, encaustic paints, watercolor, wood and metals to produce layered and textured two- and three-dimensional artworks. Much of my fiber-oriented creative effort is done either at a simple rigid heddle loom, where I weave with my fingers instead of manmade tools, or by using basic needle and thread to stitch together pieces of cloth. I’m intrigued by the textures of various materials and spend a lot of time developing works that incorporate an assortment of different surfaces that offer visual and tactile variety. Many of my works explore and interpret aspects of the natural environment; I’m gradually warming up to the reality that humans also inhabit the planet. My work is intuitive and messy and reflects my general impression of the world.
