About the Artist

I am a full-time artist in Tucson, Az. Since I can remember, I have thought of myself as an artist. Whatever the medium, I have dabbled in it. Whatever supplies that are required, I own them. Learning and growing, as an artist, is what keeps me coming back to the studio every day. I specialize in encaustic, aka. beeswax painting, which involves adding pigments to beeswax. The medium is then applied to a porous surface in liquid form and then fused with a torch in many layers. It is also known as "Painting With Fire". I also enjoy working with multiple mediums and subjects, but landscapes and florals in encaustic or oils are my favorites. Being diverse in the creative process prevents stagnation, allowing me to continue to grow and evolve as an artist. Nature has always been my muse. My style is simplistic and allows the viewers' own creative thoughts or memories to interact with the paintings that make them smile.

About the Art

About the Process

I am an Encaustic artist and I work with beeswax and tree resin. I make my own medium in an electric skillet and use a pancake griddle to keep the temperature of my wax at 200 degrees F. I color my own wax and also use shellac and raw pigments. My favorite tool is a torch which I use as my paint brush to manipulate the wax that is applied at a molten state onto a birch panel. I do use other heat tools such as a heat gun but the torch is my favorite as I feel that I have more control. I love nature and paint abstract landscapes and botanicals. My art is very colorful as I feel it brings happiness. I do tend to paint botanicals more as I love flowers and no two flowers are alike as with my paintings. Because I work with molten wax, I cannot create the same painting again. I don't do much preparation before painting. I let the painting speak to me as the wax-based material is difficult to manipulate and somewhat unpredictable which is why encaustic captivates my imagination as an artist.
