Recliners and Chess Tables

Tucson is a place where people from all over the country come to enjoy the climate, the scenery and the wonderful outdoor lifestyle. The Rillito River Walk encourages and fosters the outdoor lifestyle and I believe the seating can also relate to these wonderful assets of Tucson. In walking the trail from the south of the Rillito River, the most prominent feature to capitalize on is the Catalina Mountain View. On this side of the river I am proposing chaise lounge chairs, two to a location with a maximum of four chaise lounges set on two southern locations. On the northern side of the river I am proposing a linear seat without a back so that visitors can orient their view either to the mountains or to the river walk. The focus is to promote the atmosphere of fun, relaxation and community within the concept of interesting and well crafted seating.

Rebecca Thompson, Recliners and Chess Tables, 2008.

Working with cast concrete and steel, artist Rebecca Thompson created a series of chaise lounge chairs which line the river path. Each set of chairs either contains a game board top or an object cast from bronze, such as a coffee cup or newspaper.
